Car hire at Mykonos Airport
On Mykonos a hire vehicle solves the problem the taxis cannot: getting to Elia, Agrari, Kalafatis and the north-coast beaches whenever you like, and getting home from a beach club at 22:00 when the last bus has gone. The catch is Chora: it is a maze of pedestrian lanes, its car parks on the edge of town fill by midday in high season, and the evening crawl along the ring road is part of the Mykonos experience. Stay in town and you may not want a vehicle every day; stay at a beach and you will.

Driving from the airport
From the airport road, turn towards Chora and the ring road for the new port and the north, or the other way for Ornos, Platis Gialos and the south beaches. For Ano Mera, Elia and Kalafatis take the road east across the island. Chora itself is closed to traffic: park at the Fabrika car park in the south or the old port car park in the north and walk in, and arrive before noon in August or drive round for an hour. The roads are narrow, quads are everywhere and the meltemi can push a small car sideways on the ridge above the airport.
