Getting to and from Mykonos Airport

Send your flight number to the hotel when you book: most Mykonos hotels include an airport shuttle or offer a transfer at a fixed price, and the ones in Chora insist on it because their lanes are car-free and a porter meets the minibus at the edge of town. Independent transfer companies charge a little more than the taxi tariff and are waiting in the hall; for villas in the north and east of the island they are the only sensible arrangement.

The rank is outside arrivals, with the tariffs to each area fixed by the island’s taxi association and posted on a board; supplements apply at night and for luggage. With about 30 taxis for the whole island, the rank is often empty in summer, and the drivers work Chora’s taxi square rather than the airport between flights. Mykonos taxis are the same fares whether you wait an hour or not, which is the argument for booking a transfer instead.

The KTEL Mykonos airport bus runs a few times a day in season, timed to the main flights between the stop outside the terminal and the Fabrika bus station on the southern edge of Chora, 15 minutes for €2 paid on board. Fabrika is where the buses to Ornos, Platis Gialos, Paradise and Paraga start, so a backpacker can reach the south beaches this way. The timetable is posted at the stop and there is no evening service.

Mykonos has two ports. The big ferries and most Santorini, Naxos and Paros boats use the new port at Tourlos, 15 minutes from the airport (about €25 by taxi); the small Delos and Tinos boats and some fast ferries use the old port in Chora. Check which port your ticket says before booking a transfer. Sea bus shuttles link the two ports through the day.
